discombobulated....

Hello, I'm back...I've had a funny peculiar couple of weeks, with a case of evil flu which forced me to cancel everything, including R's birthday party, and retreat to bed for a few days...I still feel a bit wiped out.

Everything else is going well, but having such a big break from blogging has made me feel a bit weird...like there's too much to catch up on, so I don't know where to start!  I feel like if I don't jump back in soon I never will, so here's a little selection of what I've been up to...

gazing lovingly at vintage goodies at our local monthly Vintage and Flea market...

at which I met the lovely Bristol based maker Alice Rose Lewis, whose work I was not at all surprised to discover has been featured on one of my favourite blogs, Kickcan and Conkers.  She was selling a few of her lovely stitched creations, I think I should have bought one for Rufus's birthday, but I couldn't decide which one!  These were some of her early works, she's got some amazing more recent pieces in her Etsy shop.

I've enjoyed R being big enough to want to join in when M is dressing up for parties...

And as my flu thankfully subsided we managed a birthday treat for R, a magical evening in the woods with storytelling and aerial acrobatics...

There, I feel much better now!  Thank you for all your lovely comments while I've been quiet, they have all been read and appreciated, and I have still been reading your lovely blogs and leaving the odd comment.  Someone was asking me about blogging the other day, I was feeling a bit flat about not having posted for a while.  As I started to answer her questions I realised again how much I love having this space to share, and how supported I feel by all of you who take the time to pop in and read my ramblings.  It is a special place, this blogland, and I'm so very glad to occupy my little corner of it and have you all for my neighbours!

Rachel xx

Sorry I forgot to put a Floyd update in, I'm sure you'll be glad to know that he's well and we're loving having him around, I must remember to take my camera next time we take him out for a walk! 2. Aww good to hear little Floyd's doing well. I'll never get bored of a Floyd picture or two, three, four.... ;)
We took our Bo to the vet's the other day to clean his teeth and he ended up with two teeth less, poor thing. Well, he's got amazing breath now, that's for sure, haha... X

    1. Oh no, poor Bo! I had to clip Floyd's claws the other day for the first time, just getting used to all these extra jobs! I love brushing him in the evenings though, when he's all sleepy and cuddly - he ends up very silky after an evening on the sofa with me! xx

    1. Thanks Bee, it's so nice to think that you're pleased to see my posts...this blogging lark is a strange and lovely thing isn't it?! I loved so many ceramic things at this fair, I couldn't choose any one thing, so didn't buy anything! It is a great fair but not cheap, I love a bargain so I try not to get carried away. Glad you've been having lovely weather, it's been really grey here but fingers crossed for some bright crisp autumn days so can enjoy some woodland walks with Floyd and the boys! Hope you're having a good week. xx

    1. Thanks Ada, yes having little ones to look after always makes illness and recovery take longer and feel like harder work, but wouldn't be without them of course! Isn't the coffee set beautiful? Not sure how I managed to resist it really, apart from the fact that I really don't need it...but that doesn't always stop me! xx

  6. Welcome back Rachel! Sorry to hear you haven't been well. Hope you get back to your full strength soon but take it easy - flu can take a while to get over.

What a wonderful designer Alice is! Thanks for sharing! And your photos are lovely. I love the cups with the blue birds on.

    1. Hi Jo, and thanks for the welcome back - it's nice to have found my blogging mojo again after feeling so rough! Glad you like Alice's work, she's a lovely person too. The bird cups are a design called Acapulco, by Villeroy and Bosch - I have one tiny bowl in this pattern, it's one of my all time favourites but it never goes cheap! Hope you're well and having a good week! xx

    1. Thanks Caroline, it's great to be back and feeling less exhausted! That china pattern is so lovely and colourful, if I was better off I'd have loads of it! It was an amazing night in the woods - the combination of darkness, fire, storytelling and acrobatics made for a pretty magical experience! xx

  8. Discombobulated ... love that word, but sorry you've been feeling that way. Know what you mean about a blogging absence and trying to catch up. It took me days to feel "all caught up" after being on hols for a week : -) Wish I'd been at your vintage flea market, I think a couple of things may have come home with me.

    1. I love that word too! Sometimes it's the only word that describes how I feel, glad to say I've recovered now! It's a brilliant market, and only 5 minutes from my house - dangerous though, so much vintage goodness all under one roof - so much temptation! Hope you're having a lovely week. xx

    1. Hello lovely!! Oh it was a pretty display, so glad I took my camera and could 'collect' a few images instead of having to buy the actual things - there's only so much prettiness I can cram onto my shelves! xx

  11. Ah Rachel, I've never met you but you seem just so lovely, you really do. If we ever found ourselves in the same city and the same time I'd love to have a cup of tea with you.

I know what you mean about the blogging breaks, sometimes I need them, but sometimes I feel like I'm being left behind! But your blog is always a delight and that vintage and flea market looks incredible. x

    1. Oh Gillian thank you for your lovely comment, it brought a little tear to my eye (I'm a soppy bugger like that)! Do let me know if you're ever heading down this way, and I'll do the same - I'd love to meet up and have a cup of tea and a chat in person!

I'm so gratified that you enjoy my blog, I love yours too - it's important to have a break when we need them, but it's great to come back and share with lovely blogging friends like you! xx

  12. Glad you're feeling better that sounds like a nasty bout of flu. I've just seen your pup! What a handsome chap, you lucky things and I love the name too x

    1. Hi Flora, yes it was vile but I'm all better now, hurrah! Floyd is an absolute delight, it is extra work but totally worth it. Everyone seems to love the name, which is nice cause I chose it. He's from Wales and he's grey, it's a Welsh name that means 'grey haired' so there couldn't really be any debate! Hope your lovely cats are settling into their shed nicely. x

    1. Well hello Ms George, nice to see you here! And thanks, I'm glad you like my header - it took me a looong time to get around to designing it, the images are scanned from a piece of vintage fabric from my collection, and then were cleaned up in Photoshop by a helpful friend. I then played around with them in Picmonkey where I added the frame and text. Hope you enjoy nosing through my past posts! xx
