Today me and R played with my button tin. It was a very happy way to spend our time!
he made me a 'cake'...
and I rummaged through my tin and found all the 'sets' that were held together
by thread and made...a rainbow (of sorts) - I'm SO predictable!
hmmm, could have tidied the table and/or framed that one a bit better! Ho hum, never mind...was going to take some more photos - this was only about a 20th of what was in the tin, and I've got another tin full of buttons still on their cards...but my camera battery ran out, so that will have to wait for another day.
I've also just ordered some self-cover buttons so that I can use up some of my fabric scraps and have some little things to sell at upcoming Christmas craft fairs...so when they arrive I'll have even more! I've never made fabric covered buttons before so it will be interesting seeing how easy/fiddly it is...I'll let you know how it goes.
Hope you've had a lovely day.

That is an amazing collection of buttons, I'm quite in awe! The fabric button kit sounds interesting, look forward to seeing how they turn out.
ReplyDeleteHi Tamsin! The 'self cover' buttons have arrived and I have started to play, it's fun and not too fiddly now I'm getting the hang of it! I'll post some photos soon...x
DeleteLovely collection. I have my Grandma's button tin that I used to play with as a little girl. I remember it so well and can't wait till mine are old enough to play with them and not just try and eat them all! x
ReplyDeleteHow lovely to have your Grandma's buttons! I already had quite a few but was lucky enough to find a tin full of vintage buttons in a junk shop a couple of years ago which made my collection 10 times bigger overnight...that was a great day! x
DeleteI LOVED playing with my Grandmas button tin, I think that's where it all began for me! :)
ReplyDeleteI totally agree Ada - those childhood experiences are so powerful. For me it was playing with buttons and my Mum having her favourite bit of Heals fabric hung up wherever we lived - it's in my stash now, thanks Mum! x
DeleteOh gorgeous
ReplyDeleteI too do not have enough buttons....I only have about 20 jars full and a shelf unit dedicated to them...still need more?
Bestest Daisy x
Ha ha I still can't resist having a rummage through a button tin if I'm lucky enough to come across one in a charity shop. I love the idea of a whole shelf unit of them! x
DeleteMy kids love it when I get the button tin out. I am always amazed at how simply playing with them keeps them amused for hours. My eldest likes to sort them into colours and sizes and count them, so I kid myself that she is doing something educational while I get on with something else! xx
ReplyDeleteIt is brilliant how engaged kids can be by something that seems so simple. And it is definitely educational - Montessori invented stacking cups for kids; sorting things into groups of colours and sizes is really good for their brains - and fun too! xx
DeleteWhat a gorgeous button collection and in colour themes too, impressive. Love, love, love the button cake!

Thanks Jo - it's funny, I would never have thought of combining buttons and playdough till I saw a friend doing it with her little boy - it works really well! They're nice and easy to get out and clean afterwards compared to some of the things that end up being squidged into it, like lego and toy car wheels! x
DeleteIt brings back good memories, this many buttons! I spot lots of beauties! Oh is it right Rach, that the parcel arrived today? I checked some codes again today and it said yours already arrived, whoop whoop! Hope you're happy with the things you ordered! Have a lovely rest of Wednesday! x
ReplyDeleteHi Chantal - yes it arrived - thank you so much!! I would blog about the contents but I'm putting some of it away for Christmas - but I will share my love for your lovely little Webshop very soon!! Thanks so much hope you're having a great week. xx
DeleteLovely Rachel - buttons are just wonderful thiings, great for all sorts of shopping games, number games, just games, necklaces, bracelets, pictures, cards, trees, eyes, noses....on and on. The colours here are well...like a Rainbow of course!
ReplyDeleteBest wishes
Jenny
Hi Jenny! Yes aren't they just fabulous things? Which is why I can never have enough of course...I've given both my boys a selection of their own, so that they don't get too attached to any of mine...aren't I mean?! But I do have some that are just too special to be smunged into playdough...I bet you've got 'a few' yourself?!
DeleteHope you're well lovely,
Rachel x
Ooh lovely buttons. I have been looking at getting some self cover buttons but wasn't quite sure which bits to get - so much choice! I have been trying out some fabric badges this week, they were very fiddlly though and it was only when I had a few left I realised the really thin fabric works better. Look forward to seeing how your buttons turn out. xx
ReplyDeleteHi Caroline - I'd been thinking about it for ages, and then when I saw the gorgeous brooches and bracelets Modflowers has been making I asked her what she recommended. She said the metal ones are good because you can take the loopy bit off the back so they're flat, and then you can stick them to other things with strong epoxy glue. They are a bit fiddly to get the hang of, and some fabric is too thin or too thick - but I'm having fun making them! I'll post some pics sometime this coming week...hoping to try badges soon too! xx
DeleteNot sure how I missed this post Rachel ... oh my .. how I love buttons ... I can't resist getting some more at every vintage fair I go to ... I want to try self covering buttons too ... Bee xx
ReplyDeleteI manage to miss posts on blogs I love all the time - depends when they're posted and when I get a chance to catch up! Oh buttons are a joy, I finally managed to take some photos of the self covered buttons today, will try to share tomorrow! xx
