Hello lovelies, how are you today?
I have had a bit of a rollercoaster week, my Dad has been ill and urgently needed major surgery, which was really nerve wracking. He is recovering and his health should be improved after a period of recuperation, so in the long run it's a good thing...scary though. And then just when I was having trouble sleeping cause I was worrying about him, the rain started dripping through the ceiling...
But! This Saturday we are collecting our new baby, Floyd the Miniature Schnauzer. The excitement level in our house is reaching fever pitch - only 2 sleeps to go - it's like an early Christmas present for our whole family.
In the meantime, before I bombard you all with pictures of Floyd, I
thought I'd show you something I managed to make...yes, I made time for
some sewing, and it felt good! I've been playing with these bits of fabric for a while...
I love these fabrics so much, and some of them I've only got a little bit of - there are barkcloths, and collectible fabrics from Heals, and Scandinavian fabrics. I
wanted to try something a tad more ambitious than my usual squares or strips, so
I went for a rectangular log cabin type of arrangement...and as
with most things I make, I planned it carefully, but I still got to the
end and saw things I might do differently if I could make it again. But
that is ok, that is how we learn...and now instead of having to open my
cupboard to look at all these gorgeous patterns and colours, I get to
enjoy them every day, which makes me really happy.
Before I go I'd just like to welcome my new followers, and anyone who has popped in to read or comment...it still amazes me that people spend time here, reading my ramblings...thank you, you're all totally gorgeous. I just have to give a special welcome to my newest follower, Donna Flower(!) who if you love vintage fabric (and if you don't, what are you doing here?!) you will surely know of - she sells the most fabulous vintage fabrics and haberdashery, both online and on her stall at various vintage fairs. I actually bought the top bit of the cushion cover above from her, and now she's following my blog! Sorry, I'll stop now...just had to get a bit excited about that!
I hope you're all having a good week, and haven't been ill, or flooded, and have maybe managed a moment or two of creative fun...
Rachel xx
I'm so sorry to hear about your stressful week. I hope things settle down and your dad gets better soon. In the meantime let me tell you, even I have been excited about floyd! Enjoy his lovely puppyness and please post lots of pictures! Xx
ReplyDeleteThanks love, I spoke to my Dad earlier and he sounded much brighter, though still very much in the early stages of recovery. That's so sweet that you're getting excited about Floyd! We're bringing him home tomorrow morning, we're quite demented with anticipation - don't worry there'll be lots of photos for you to see very soon I'm sure! xx

ReplyDeleteThanks Jen, yes I'm so relieved that my Dad is feeling better. Also glad I've got a hobby to distract myself with in those stressful times that life throws at us! Floyd will undoubtedly do a good job of that too...x
DeleteOh why haven't you said? There is me blubbing on about my sh*t, and not knowing any of this. Hun... we need a drink and soon. xx (love your sewing, am I being dumb, what is it? A quilt?) I love it anyway xxx
ReplyDeleteDon't be silly hon, it was lovely to see you the other day, and I didn't want to be dwelling on my stresses. Looking forward to seeing you next week for a proper catch up with wine and no kids! And it's a cushion cover, but more pillowcase shaped for a rectangular cushion. Glad you like it! x
DeleteYou will love Floyd.A more loving, clever, and gentle breed would be hard to find. But noisy!!! Mine can shout for England!! What fun you are going to have.
ReplyDeleteHi Veronica, thanks for popping in and leaving your lovely comment! I must admit I am totally charmed by Miniature Schnauzers, they seem to be a perfect all round family pet - and believe it or not, when we went to visit him with his Mum and Dad and 7 siblings, none of them barked! We'll see what he's like once we get him home...Rachel :)
DeleteWishing your Dad a speedy recovery.
ReplyDeleteLove your fabrics, how nice to make such a gorgeous cushion with them.
Thanks Trudy, thankfully he seems to be recovering well...always so worrying when a loved one is ill though, as you know all too well. Glad you like my little patchwork, being creative helps us through these difficult times! xx

DeleteGlad your dad is on the mend, that's good to hear. And gorgeous cushion cover! I've been wondering about trying some log cabin- it does look great...
ReplyDeleteRachel x
Thanks love, yes all a bit better here, thanks to the marvelous NHS (for my Dad), and the power of sewing (for my sanity!)! I did enjoy the log cabin, but now I'm itching to try something a bit more freeform...watch this space! x
DeleteOh Rachel ... so sorry to hear you has a stressy week .. but glad your Dad is on the road to recovery ... I love the colours in the fsbrics you have used ... my favourites ... can't wait to see lovely photos of Floyd ... I'm sure your little ones are about to burst with excitement ... have a great weekend ... Bee xx
ReplyDeleteHi lovely Bee, and thanks...yes I love blues, greens and purples, it's the palette I always come back to. Photos of Floyd will be here very soon I'm sure...and yes I think if you could actually pop with excitement we all would have done by now! Have a lovely weekend. xx
DeleteWhat a nightmare week - I do hope your Dad gets better soon. And your roof stops leaking! Gorgeous blues in those fabrics - will it be a quilt? I like it a lot. x
ReplyDeleteThanks Gillian! Thankfully the rain has held off, someone will be coming to look at the roof soon so fingers crossed it'll be fixed before the next torrential downpour. This patchwork project has been turned into a rectangular cushion cover, but I think a quilt is brewing in my fabric obsessed brain...and I'm sure there'll be some blues in there too. x
